Coney Island Hot Dog Sauce
Submitted by ALONG37264
This is very popular around Michigan at Coney Island
restaurants or diners.
1 Tbsp butter
1 Tbsp margarine
1 1/2 lb of
ground beef
2 medium sweet onions, diced very fine
1 clove of garlic
crushed
2 Tbsp chili powder
1 Tbsp French's mustard
1 8-oz can tomato
sauce
3/4 cup water
4 to 5 hot dogs, ground up
salt and pepper to
taste
Melt butter and margarine then add uncooked ground beef,
onion, spices, mustard, tomato sauce and water. DO NOT add hotdogs at this
point. Simmer the mixture until thick, grind up hotdogs in meat grinder or
food processor and add to sauce cooking for 15 more minutes. It is very
important NOT to brown the ground beef, but to cook it with all the other
ingredients as described.
To make a Michigan style coney
dog........Steam your hot dog bun, place a heaping spoonful of coney sauce on
hotdog, add chopped onion and little mustard. Enjoy!!
This sauce freezes well
also.
